Creating Effective Anti-Aging Skincare Routine For Healthy And Beautiful Skin is Easy at any Age!
Anti-Aging has become a bit of a buzzword in skincare and wellness. What does an anti-aging skincare routine look like? And, what can you do to support your skin as you age, for a more youthful appearance?
We all know we need to drink water and hydrate from the inside out. We know we need to wear sunscreen with a high SPF to protect our skin from environmental impacts like UVA and UVB rays. But what about long lasting, sustainable anti-aging practices?
Establishing and maintaining an effective skin care routine is key to ensuring your skin stays feeling and looking young and fresh as you age.
Incorporating topical treatments into your day and night skincare routine is a great way to set up a consistent routine and take some time for yourself. Taking a minute at the start of the day to focus on you and your skin or unwinding with an anti-aging skincare routine at the end of the day is a great way to practice acts of daily self care.
An effective anti-aging skincare routine should include products with active ingredients. Actives to consider are:
- Vitamin C
- Glycolic acid
- Hyaluronic acid
- Niacinamide
- Retinoids
- Peptide
When Should You Start An Anti-Aging Regimen?
To get technical, collagen loss starts around age 20 thanks to various lifestyle factors like sleep (or lack thereof), stress, sun exposure and exposure to free radicals, in addition to the body’s naturally occurring aging process. Starting a skincare regimen with an anti-aging focus from your early 20s is best. If you don’t currently have a skincare routine focused on prevention and skin rejuvenation there’s no better time to start!
Beauty Pillow’s Top Anti-Aging Tips!
There’s so many health and wellness routines these days, we compiled some top tips to help your skin look and feel its best!
Eat a Balanced Diet
This is hardly new advice, we all know enjoying a varied and balanced diet is one of the best things we can do for your health, inside and out. What we eat can have a direct correlation to how we look and feel.
Eating foods high in antioxidants, especially those that enhance lycopene will have a positive impact on your skin. Antioxidants found in fresh fruits and vegetables can help to boost your skins look and feel and even increase your body’s response to sunlight!
Reduce Your Daily Sugar Intake
A diet high in sugar can accelerate skin aging, thanks to the body’s response to glucose. Try replacing high-sugar treats or snacks with tasty food rich in antioxidants like dark berries, avocados, and green smoothies.
Reduce Sleep Lines And Sleep Wrinkles While You Sleep With Beauty Pillow!
Did you know you spend one third of your life sleeping?! That’s huge!
Some might say “sleep is for the weak” but we believe enjoying a supported sleep makes you stronger! Sleeping with a support pillow like the Beauty Pillow Anti-Aging Pillow will help to reduce the impact of compression on your face. Reducing nightly compression and skin pulling will help to reduce the appearance of deep set sleep lines and wrinkles that form
What’s an Anti-Wrinkle Pillow?
Traditional pillows make it easy to toss and turn, which can pull at your delicate facial skin, causing irritation. The Anti Aging Pillow from Beauty Pillow features a patented design with 6 sleeping zones, designed to help you maintain neck and spine alignment and reduce movement.
The Beauty Pillow gently cradles your face while you sleep, reducing compression and pulling or tugging - unlike traditional pillows where body weight is unevenly distributed. Its patented design prevents sleep wrinkles and fine lines from forming and ensures a good night's sleep.
Beauty sleep is one of the most important parts of your health and wellness routine, so getting the right sleep support is essential!
Regular Physical Activity
Daily movement is one of the most important elements in any health and wellness routine, and it’s no different for skin health!
Did you know: exercise releases the cytokine IL15, which is great for rebuilding and rejuvenating skin cells!
Enjoying regular physical activity helps to calm the body and improve sleep. Ensuring you maintain regular physical activity will help to improve your circulation, boost your energy levels and can help you enjoy a sounder, more regular sleep routine.
Calm Your Mind
Practicing daily yoga flows can help to focus the mind on the breath as you gently stretch and loosen tired muscles. Alternatively, stepping away from stimulants like phones, computers and enjoying a quiet meditative practice can help to reduce tension and stress from your day to day.
Enjoy Regular Facial Massage
Face massage might sound or look strange but it’s surprisingly relaxing! Facial massage is a great way to ensure your active ingredients in serums or treatments are fully absorbed into the skin. Gently massaging your preferred product into the skin for a minute or so will help to shape and firm your facial muscles.
Our suggestion: Massage your fingertips over your face in gentle circular motions. This simple practice increases flexibility, disrupts tension patterns and helps to prevent tissue denaturation
Protect Your Skin!
Wrinkles are typically formed by lifestyle and environmental factors like stress, sun exposure, pollution and poor diet and exercise.
Reducing the impact of these factors with a consistent health and wellness routine and enjoying a supported sleep will help reduce the impact of these factors on your skin.
Remove Your Makeup!
It can be a hassle, but removing your makeup is the number one step in ensuring your skin is clean and clear! Using a mild cleanser, free of stripping chemicals will help to maintain your skin's natural moisture barrier.
Removing make up will ensure your pores are clear, reducing skin inflammation and breakouts. Leveling up your nightly skincare routine with a silk pillowcase from Beauty Pillow’s Silk Collection will help to reduce skin inflammation, for clean fresh skin everyday.
Ready for your own Anti-Aging Regimen?
We created a simple routine you can follow or adjust, according to your skin's needs:
Step 1 – Wash your face using a gentle cleanser to remove makeup and remove dirt and sebum build up.
Step 2 – Gently pat on a non-alcoholic toner to maintain your skin’s naturally low pH balance.
Step 3 – Gently exfoliate your skin at least twice a week. Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells and stimulate new cell growth.
Step 4 – Use an anti-aging serum. Pat it on the skin gently with your fingertips. Using serums rich in vitamin A, retinoids, or vitamin C will help to increase the skin's collagen production.
Step 5 – Use a water based moisturizer high in ingredients like glycerine or hyaluronic acid. Moisturizers with high concentrations of petroleum jelly or mineral oils work to prevent water from evaporating from the skin.
Step 6 – Always wear sunscreen high in SPF. UVA and UVB rays from sunlight can:
- Destroy collagen, causing anomalies in the elastin
- Lead to thinning of the skin, increasing wrinkle formation
- Cause irregular pigmentation or spots
Step 7 – Get enough oil. Good omegas found in some oils, omega fish oil capsules, or vegetable oil, with some drops of rosehip, can enhance the health of cell membranes, resulting in smoother skin.
Your skin changes as you age, naturally. A loss of skin elasticity is partly behind the formation of fine lines and deeper wrinkles. Ensuring you have an effective anti-aging regimen is a holistic affair. Any routine should be supported by a consistent wellness routine, a balanced diet and a solid beauty sleep routine, supported by an anti-wrinkle pillow!
